Sat 19th May, “An Economy for the 99% – share ideas and tools to make it happen”, presentations and public workshops, 9.30am to 12.00, Quaker Meeting House, St. James Street, S1 2EW. Dr. Rory Ridley-Duff, Sheffield Hallam University, on Co-operatives; Peter Verity, on “Positive Money” rather than debt, various people on 3 local initiatives. Organised by WDM as part of the “One Million Climate Jobs” Caravan events and in support of the aims of Occupy Sheffield.

Thurs 7th June, Campaigning Meeting 7-9pm at CURC, 60 Norfolk St, S1 2JB Including finalising plans for the summer festival stalls, and responding to WDM’s consultation on options for climate campaigning in the autumn.
Sat 9th June, Stall at Peace in the Park festival, 12-6pm, The Ponderosa (park between Crookes Valley Road and Upperthorpe Rd), Sheffield – WDM in Sheffield will have a campaigning stall here again, volunteers welcome!

Sat 23rd June, “The people versus the banks” WDM conference, 1–6pm, University of London Union, central London, free. Keynote speech and Q&A with Aditya Chakrabortty, economics lead writer at the Guardian. Multimedia talk on Chile’s revolt against neoliberalism with Roberto Navarrete. Debate on co-operatives, their role in tackling poverty and inequality, and as alternatives to corporate banks. Workshops on financial sector lobbying, tackling banks’ role in speculating on food prices and stopping the sell off of natural resources in the name of creating a ‘green economy’. Campaigning skills workshops. National WDM Annual General Meeting, same venue, registration and refreshments from 10am, AGM 10.30am to 12pm, session consulting members on the direction of our campaigns from 12 to 12.45pm.
Thurs 28th June, Excellent speaker on Food Sovereignty, 7.45- 9.30pm at CURC, 60 Norfolk St, S1 2JB. Patrick Mulvany, senior policy adviser to the charity Practical Action (previously ITDG). He is also Chair of the UK Food Group, which works on global food and farming issues including promotion of ecological food provision in the framework of food sovereignty. Sheffield WDM Sheffield AGM, 7pm, same place.

Fri 18th – Sat 19th May, One Million Climate Jobs Caravan events: The Caravan starts in Glasgow and finishes in London and will highlight how creating climate jobs could help us tackle the twin crises of the economy and climate change.
- Caravan on Tudor Square, Sheffield, Fri 18th May, 12-6pm. Films, promotional materials and a ‘Climate Job Centre’ to explain more about the actual climate jobs which could be created.
