Thanks to Oxfam Leeds for the loan of their stall over lunchtime.

WDM  invited members of the public to speculate about food by rolling a large die. The prize was the number of chocolates on the front of the die.  The deal was that passers by then listened to the facts about food speculation internationally and how this was affecting the poor . There was a lot of interest from the public and all those approached signed an action card.

UPDATE: We now have a video showing Bradford WDM at the Peace and Crafts Fair on Youtube:

Christine Haigh from national WDM facilitated an informative and interactive evening. This was a  joint event with members from both Leeds and Bradford WDM . Two discussion groups took place: one planned for  lobbying MEPs and the other had some thought provoking ideas for stunts to raise awareness of the importance of regulating the food industry to reduce speculation which increases hunger and and poverty.

These ideas will be followed up at the October meeting.  Join us to finalise campaign plans.

In November Bradford WDM was delighted to have a visit from Ann Cryer.

Ann gave us many practical and achievable suggestions on how to more effectively lobby MPs.

Those of us at the meeting felt uplifted and inspired by the talk.

We look forward to putting her ideas into practice in 2011.

On 14.10.10 over 50 people participated in a debate at Bradford University with Linda McAvan MEP and Mollie Somerville from the Bradford WDM.

An invigorating evening discussing climate debt and food speculation ended in many people taking action by sending cards to the government urging them to address these issues and tackle the root causes of worldwide poverty.
